Why personal care?

Personal care means supporting and supervising people’s personal living and private hygiene tasks. This helps people maintain their independence and lifestyle.

Support workers must provide evidence of their qualifications to provide personal care services on the Mable platform. Learn more about what’s required of you to get approved to provide personal care services.

Personal care is in high demand on Mable.

What do I need to get started?

Mandatory for all services

As an independent support worker on Mable, you must add an ABN to your profile before you can be approved to apply for jobs posted by clients on the platform. You can get a free ABN from the Australian Business Register.

You must complete a police check (which includes ID verification) via the link in your profile. Our partner, Checked Australia, provides this for $44, a 31% discount on their standard rate of $64.

The police check is reviewed by Mable per our assessment criteria outlined in the Police Check Policy.

We do not accept existing police checks, even ones previously obtained from Checked Australia. This process ensures that all the police checks we receive are verified, validated and accurately represent the requirements of support work.

Mable does not make any commission from our partnership with Checked Australia.

Before you can be approved to work as a support worker on the Mable platform, you must watch a 30-minute Infection Control Training video, which is a part of your account setup.

You must provide at least 2 professional or character references in order to offer support services on Mable.

You must set up a profile. Upload a profile photo – a close-up, colour photograph of your own face. You will also need a short bio, which should include your key skills, interests, and things you enjoy – keep it light and conversational.

If you want to provide personal care services

If you want to offer Personal Care services on Mable, you must have either:

  • A Certificate III or IV in Aged Care or Disability Support

  • A similar qualification

  • A minimum of 2 years’ equivalent experience;

  • A nursing qualification attained in NZ, the Philippines, USA, Canada, the UK, EU member country, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the UAE (but not for nursing services or “assist with medication”).

You must provide 2 professional references from a supervisor or colleague who can verify that you have performed the personal care services you want to offer on Mable. The references must relate to experience within an aged care or disability organisation within the last 5 years.

If you want to work with children and teenagers
(under 18 years old)

If you want to offer services via the Mable platform and intend to work with children, you must submit a valid Working With Children Check number (or equivalent in their state) for verification.

In states and territories where cards are provided, you must carry the card with you when providing your services.

Mandatory in Tasmania or ACT

If you are offering services in Tasmania or the ACT, you must submit a Working With Vulnerable People check. This check is in place of a Working With Children Check but must be submitted regardless of whether you will work with children.

Payment FAQs

There are three payment options on Mable. When you receive your payments depends on which option you choose:

  • Regular payments – your payment will be sent to you within two business days from when we collect the payment from your client. Payment collection times depend on the client’s funding source and payment method and can vary. We follow up on any overdue or unpaid payments as per our terms of use.
  • Express Pay – Mable has partnered with PayNow Finance to offer Express Pay. Express Pay guarantees you receive payment within 3 business days (subject to eligibility). You can select the Express Pay payment option in support hours. A 1.5% fee applies.
  • 10-Day Payments – If you are eligible for 10-Day Payments, and you’ve turned on this payment option (on your billing page or in account settings on mobile), Mable Payment Services pays your eligible support hours within 10 days, from approval, even if the payment is still being collected from the client or their funding source. So, if we’ve not collected your payment by day 10, we’ll pay you the value of your support hours, and take ownership of the invoice and responsibility for collection of payment for that invoice. If we collect your payment sooner, you’ll be paid right away.

Signing up for Mable is entirely free for clients, allowing them to start searching for, and communicating with support workers immediately.

While support workers can sign up for free, they cannot be approved to work on Mable without obtaining a new police check through our partner, Checked Australia, via the link in their Mable profile. This costs $44, a 31% discount on their standard rate of $64. The police check includes ID verification.

Each support worker sets their own hourly rates, within our $38 minimum hourly rate and the NDIS price cap (when applicable), which are clearly displayed on their profiles. Before booking a support worker, they and the clients must discuss and agree on the rate and schedule.

The cost structure is transparent, whereby clients pay the agreed rate plus a 7.95% client platform fee, while workers receive the agreed rate minus a 10% support engagement fee. No fees are charged until a client books a support worker and the services are delivered. Payments are made online and can be easily tracked through support hours in your Mable account. For more detailed information about Mable's pricing, you can visit our Pricing page.

If greater certainty about when you’ll be paid or being paid more quickly helps you, we’ve partnered with PayNow Finance Pty Ltd to offer Express Pay. Express Pay is an optional feature that guarantees your invoice is paid in 3 business days (subject to eligibility). You can access this in the Support Hours tab. A 1.5% fee will be applied if you use this option. Learn more about Express Pay on our website.

10-Day Payments is an optional feature that guarantees a support worker’s invoice is paid within 10 days of their support hours being approved (subject to eligibility). Mable Payment Services pays the support worker within 10 days of their support hours being approved even if the payment is still being collected from the client or their funding source.
