Getting a police check

In order to book jobs on the Mable platform, every independent support worker must provide a new police check which can only be obtained through our partners Checked Australia using the Apply for police check button in the support worker’s Mable profile.

We do not accept current police checks or those accessed through Checked directly. Independent support workers must apply and pay for a Checked Australia police check by using the Apply for police check button in their Mable profile.

Mable’s partnership with Checked Australia

By getting a new police check through our partners Checked Australia, we ensure all the police checks we receive are verified, validated and a true representation of a support worker’s police history. A full ID check is completed by Checked Australia.

This process keeps our community safe and gives clients peace of mind when choosing support workers.

Mable does not make any commission from our partnership with Checked Australia.

Getting a police check

You can get a police check through your Mable account for the discounted price of $35 (instead of the usual $54). Select Apply for police check during your account setup and follow the steps.

This is the only way Mable accepts a Checked Australia police check. DO NOT apply for one directly through the Checked Australia website. You will not be able to link it to your Mable profile. You must apply for the Checked Australia police check through your Mable profile.

You will need documentation to prove your identity, so please have it ready to go. You will need four separate identity documents from the following categories:

  • One commencement of identity document (for example, an Australian birth certificate or Australian citizenship certificate)
  • One primary use in the community document (for example, an Australian passport or Australian drivers licence)
  • Two secondary use in the community documents (for example, a utility bill or bank statement).

If your identity documents use a former name, you must also provide evidence of your name change. Acceptable documents include a change of name certificate issued by the Australian Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages or an Australian marriage certificate.

We suggest allowing up to two business days for your police check application to be processed. To check on the progress of an application, please contact Checked Australia directly.

Renewing a Checked Australia police check

Your police check from Checked Australia is valid for three years and can be used outside of Mable.

You will begin to receive reminder emails that your police check is going to expire in the lead up to the final date. You will receive one six weeks before it expires and another every two weeks up until the expiry date if you do not submit a new police check. The emails will include information on how to apply for a new one. An alert will also be displayed on your Mable dashboard.

If you do not provide a new police check before the expiry date, your account will be unapproved and you will be unable to submit support notes which will affect your ability to receive payments.

Changing your name

You don’t need to get a new police check if you change your name. For example, if you get married and change your name, you do not have to get another police check.

If you apply for a police check after changing your name, you will have to include all names you have been known by in your application. If your identity documents use a former name, you must also provide evidence of your name change. Acceptable documents include a change of name certificate issued by the Australian Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages or an Australian marriage certificate.

International police checks

Mable does not require you to provide an international police check.

However, if you have been a citizen or resident of another country since turning 16, you must provide a statutory declaration.
