We are thrilled to share that our Individualised Living Program Manager, Libby Ellis, will be speaking at this year’s World Down Syndrome Congress (WDSC).

Libby is our in-house expert on all things NDIS Home and Living. At the event, she will be facilitating a workshop on how to confidently get started with independent living.

What to expect from Libby’s session

Libby’s session at the WDSC is for people who want to take action on independent living but find themselves stuck, especially with the NDIS.

“[The NDIS] can feel complex and overwhelming,” says Libby. “I am also a family member of a person with intellectual disability, and have worked with many individuals and families on this path.”

“In my session, I will be sharing these pathfinding steps.”

What is the World Down Syndrome Congress?

The World Down Syndrome Congress is a global event organised by Down Syndrome International. The event unites people with Down syndrome, their families, professionals, researchers and advocates to celebrate diversity and inclusion.

This year, the event is being held in Brisbane, Australia from 9-12 July.

We are proud to be a Diamond Sponsor of the WDSC, and can’t wait to attend the event to connect with our community and share ideas.

How can I attend the WDSC?

If you would like to attend the World Down Syndrome Congress, you can purchase a ticket on the WDSC website.

It is possible to use NDIS funding to attend the WDSC, as the event helps people with their NDIS goals. You can find out how in our article here.

Preventing everyday harm in support work
As a support worker, you want your clients to feel safe, respected and supported. You may already think carefully about how to provide safe support and prevent serious incidents. But harm is not always obvious. Sometimes, small everyday actions, words or assumptions can affect a client in ways you may not have intended or noticed at the time. This is sometimes referred to as everyday harm. Over time, these small moments can build up and may affect how respected, heard, in control or safe your client feels. The newly launched Everyday Harm website brings together practical resources to help support workers and organisations build safer, more respectful support relationships. These resources were developed through Australian Research Council studies, including interviews with people with disability about their experiences. Mable was proud to be involved in this project as an Industry and Community Partner organisation. We hope these resources help you better understand everyday harm
