Whether you’re going on a domestic holiday or heading to a special event, Mable’s national network of independent support workers have your care covered.

Travel can be daunting, especially if you use regular support. It’s easy to dismiss travel opportunities if you don’t know how you can find the right support for your needs in a different location.

With skilled support workers all around the country, Mable makes finding support for your travels easy.

How to book a support worker in a different location

Organising a support worker for your travels is not as hard as it sounds. In fact, it’s just as easy as posting a job on Mable in your regular town or city.

The key difference is that when you are prompted to select the location of the job, you select the city or town that you will need the support in.

So, if you live in Adelaide and need support for a trip to Brisbane, be sure to select Brisbane in the location field.

Be clear in your job post

When posting the job, be very clear about the type of support you will need and what your plans are. For example, if you are attending a special event (like a conference or gathering), that should be communicated in the job post.

Chat to your support worker before your trip

Like any job, it’s important that your support worker knows what to expect. Use our in app calling and meet and greet features to chat online with your support worker. That way you can get to know the person you’ll be working with when you get there, and your support worker can get all the necessary details for the job.

Preventing everyday harm in support work
As a support worker, you want your clients to feel safe, respected and supported. You may already think carefully about how to provide safe support and prevent serious incidents. But harm is not always obvious. Sometimes, small everyday actions, words or assumptions can affect a client in ways you may not have intended or noticed at the time. This is sometimes referred to as everyday harm. Over time, these small moments can build up and may affect how respected, heard, in control or safe your client feels. The newly launched Everyday Harm website brings together practical resources to help support workers and organisations build safer, more respectful support relationships. These resources were developed through Australian Research Council studies, including interviews with people with disability about their experiences. Mable was proud to be involved in this project as an Industry and Community Partner organisation. We hope these resources help you better understand everyday harm
