At Mable, technology is key to help clients and support workers find their kind of independence.

For clients, it could be finding a worker that suits their cultural background. For support workers, it could be freedom to choose how they manage their finances.

Here’s a look at just a few of Mable’s platform features, with which they can do all this and more.

Mable features for clients

We understand that independence is unique to each client. That’s why at Mable, we are constantly working to create new platform features and initiatives to make each client’s support journey easier.

Here are some of our features and initiatives you can use to find your kind of independence with Mable.

Mable Last Minute

Sometimes, due to unexpected changes, a support worker may not be available at the last minute.

With Mable Last Minute, Mable clients can book independent support workers on Mable to be available within as little as 4 hours.

For Mable clients, the impact of the Mable Last Minute initiative has been huge. For example, Lana was able to get last minute support for her father-in-law during a family crisis.

Many clients have even created long-term support relationships with support workers they found through this feature.

Independence can mean finding the support worker you want, even if it’s last minute.

Bring your own support worker to Mable

With Mable, clients have complete choice and control to choose their own support workers.

Clients often work with people who are support workers in their local community. On Mable, they have the freedom to bring their support worker on the platform.

By bringing your support worker to Mable, you both have access to safeguards.

Simply get your worker to join now for free, and the Mable team will support them to complete their joining process. After that, you can start booking your support sessions with your worker.

Book support workers who suit your needs

On Mable, every client has the choice to book exactly the kind of support worker they want.

We understand some clients may want a support worker who speaks the same language they do. Others may want to book a support worker who has experience providing support to a member of the LGBTQIA community. A client could also want to book someone with similar hobbies and interests.

On Mable, clients can book support workers that suit their specific support needs.

Mable features for independent support workers

Support workers on Mable are independent contractors. This means they are self-employed and run their small business through Mable.

From transitioning to self-employment to building their business, support workers on Mable have access to a variety of tools and benefits to help them find their kind of independence.

Here are just some of these initiatives and features.

Network with your support worker peers

Being able to network within a massive community of support workers is a big part of being an independent support worker on Mable.

Our Facebook community of independent workers is where you can find your peers, ask questions, arrange meet-ups, find a support worker ‘buddy’, and seek advice on anything and everything.

Decide how you want to manage finances

Managing finances, including tax, super and expenses, is one of the biggest responsibilities a self-employed support worker has.

Mable supports workers by giving them choice on how they do this, by providing them different payment options: Regular, 10-Day Payments and Express Pay.

Depending on the option that suits your preference, you can select from the three payment options.

Freedom to upskill

Being an independent support worker means you have the freedom to decide how you want to progress your professional development, when you want to do it, and which area you want to do it in.

Support workers on Mable get free access to the Mable Learning Hub, a resource of 170+ training courses from reputable organisations to help you improve your skill set.

As you complete the training course, you can add these to your support worker profile, potentially improving your chances of booking more clients with specific support needs.

Preventing everyday harm in support work
As a support worker, you want your clients to feel safe, respected and supported. You may already think carefully about how to provide safe support and prevent serious incidents. But harm is not always obvious. Sometimes, small everyday actions, words or assumptions can affect a client in ways you may not have intended or noticed at the time. This is sometimes referred to as everyday harm. Over time, these small moments can build up and may affect how respected, heard, in control or safe your client feels. The newly launched Everyday Harm website brings together practical resources to help support workers and organisations build safer, more respectful support relationships. These resources were developed through Australian Research Council studies, including interviews with people with disability about their experiences. Mable was proud to be involved in this project as an Industry and Community Partner organisation. We hope these resources help you better understand everyday harm
