How to apply for the NDIS
Before exploring how to apply for the NDIS, find out if you or the person you might be applying on behalf of, is eligible for access to the NDIS . With the funding comes responsibility – you should be completely open and transparent about the need for the funded support, you should be prepared to do what is required to receive the funding, and you should be prepared to be held accountable for the funding you might receive, especially if you intend to self-manage . Before you apply for the NDIS, it is important to be aware of what the NDIS is , what the NDIS does , and what is being taken on when entering into the NDIS. There will be meetings to attend – in person, over the phone or online; reviews to prepare for; reports to be gathered; invoices to check and perhaps pay. What to consider when looking for support
If you have decided to engage someone in a paid support role, the next step is to decide the ‘what, where, when, who and how’ of support. What do you need support for? Remember, different people are good at different things. Are you looking for in-home or out-and-about support? A well-constructed position description will get the balance right between being too prescriptive and being clear about what the job entails. Start by coming up with a job title that describes, as best you can, the type of job it is. This is, in part, a style of recruitment called ‘role based recruitment’. For this, consider: What ‘role’ do you want the person to be assisted to perform?  What is the ‘role’ you want the support person to take on?   Examples: Not everyone is going to want to write a Position Description (PD), but it certainly helps when you get down to the discussion about what it is you are engaging someone to do for you. It makes you really think about it and helps you in your supervisory role, once you have pa
