Keeping your support going through the aged care changes
New rules are coming into effect across the aged care sector. Mable is guiding support workers through their requirements, so you can keep working with the person you know and trust.
What's changing
Mable is now formally regulated under the new Aged Care Act as a Digital Platform Provider
For the first time, digital platforms that connect older Australians with independent workers are officially included in the aged care legislation. This means Mable is a recognised, regulated entity with specific legal duties.
The NDIS Worker Screening Check is now the standard
The NDIS Worker Screening Check sets a high standard that is recognised across the care sector. When your support worker's current police check expires, they will be required to complete an NDIS Worker Screening Check instead.
New training for Support at Home services
If you pay for care with Support at Home funding, your support workers will need to complete free competency training through the Mable Learning Hub. This training covers person-centred care, trauma-informed practice, dementia care, emergency response, and the Aged Care Code of Conduct.
First Aid and CPR requirements for some services
If your support worker provides nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech pathology or psychological services, they may need a current First Aid and/or CPR certificate.
What this means for you
Nothing changes about how you book, manage or pay for your support. Behind the scenes, we're rolling out free competency training for support workers, covering person-centred care, dementia care, trauma-informed practice and emergency response through our Learning Hub.
For some services, there is now a mandatory requirement for First Aid and CPR Certificates.
How you can help:
- If your support worker hasn't mentioned completing their Aged Care Training yet, feel free to check in with them. It's free and available now through our Learning Hub.
- If they provide nursing, personal care, OT, speech pathology, physiotherapy, or psychology services, a current First Aid or CPR certificate may also be required.
- Reassure them (if needed) that Mable is providing updates on exactly what's needed and by when. It's all on our Support Worker compliance page for their reference.
Key dates
- 1 November 2025: The new Aged Care Act and Support at Home program commenced.
- Starting mid-October 2026: Aged care training and NDIS Worker Screening Checks will become required for support workers.
