About NDIS Home and Living

The NDIS breaks funding for Home and Living into three categories:

  • Supported Independent Living (SIL)
  • Individualised Living Options (ILO)
  • Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA)

These three categories each have their own unique eligibility rules.

Supported Independent Living (SIL)

SIL is the support you get at home to live as independently as possible e.g. help with personal care.

Eligibility

People who need active support from support workers for 8+ hours a day, plus some help at other times like overnight.

Individualised Living Options (ILO)

ILO is for people who want to live independently but want to explore alternative options to living in a group home.

Eligibility

People who need support at home for at least 6 hours a day and want to be actively involved in creating their new home.

Specialised Disability Accommodation (SDA)

SDA is specialist designed housing to help people be more independent. It’s about the bricks and mortar, not the supports inside the home.

Eligibility

People who have what is called an extreme functional impairment or very high support needs.
