Serious Incident Reporting Scheme and Code of Conduct for Aged Care Training

We’ve created two training tasks to provide important information about support worker obligations under the Serious Incident Reporting Scheme (SIRS) and the Code of Conduct for Aged Care (the Code).

Independent support workers working with a client who uses a Home Care Package to fund their aged care support and services are required to complete this eight-minute training as soon as possible by clicking on the links below or on the dashboard of your Mable account.

Once you’ve completed the training, it will be visible in the Verified by Mable section of your profile.

SIRS training

Code of Conduct training

Why do I need to complete this training?
On 1 December 2022, SIRS was extended to include aged care services provided in client homes and communities. The Code was introduced on the same day to set minimum standards of behaviour for approved providers (like Home Care Package providers), their aged care workers and subcontracted workers such as independent support workers on Mable.

In the near future, it’s likely that Home Care Package providers will require you to have completed training in SIRS and the Code of Conduct for Aged Care to work with people who have a Home Care Package. If your client has a Home Care Package, their HCP provider name is included in the “My Clients” section of your Mable account.

What’s included in the training?

This training will help you to:

  1. Better identify serious incidents, and respond quickly.
  2. Understand HCP provider obligations under SIRS and how you work together to provide safe, quality care.
  3. Understand your role in protecting the rights of people receiving aged care support and services to be treated well and feel safe.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this training mandatory?
If you are currently working with a client who uses a Home Care Package to fund their aged care support and services, you’re required to complete this 8 minute training as soon as possible. Once you’ve completed the training, it will be visible in the Verified by Mable section of your profile.

I don’t work with a client who has a Home Care Package. Do I need to complete this training?

If you plan to work with any of the growing number of clients on Mable who use a Home Care Package to fund their aged care support and services, we strongly recommend that you complete this 8 minute training as soon as possible by clicking on the links below or on the dashboard of your Mable account.

Once you’ve completed the training, it will be visible in the Verified by Mable section of your profile and can be seen by people looking for workers for a client with a Home Care Package.

I have already agreed to the Mable Code of Conduct. Why do I have to read and acknowledge that and the Aged Care Code of Conduct?

Both Codes of Conduct apply to your provision of support via Mable. Mable’s Code of Conduct relates to your usage of the Mable platform. The Code of Conduct for Aged Care is a separately applicable Code of Conduct which applies to you if you provide support to a client who receives HCP funding. Their HCP provider organisation is required by the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission to ensure that you have read and understood the Aged Care Code of Conduct.

I have completed the SIRS and Aged Care WCC training. I am still unclear what I need to do differently.

You can start with:

  1. Submitting your timesheet within 24 hours after your support session is completed.
  2. Create support notes with enough detail of what tasks and activities you completed, and any health changes you observed.
  3. Submit an incident report if there was an incident that is one of the 8 reportable incidents that was outlined in SIRS.

I have questions about the SIRS and/or Aged Care WCC. Who should I contact?
