Remember – it’s important to have the conversation with your client about setting a revised rate prior to providing the service – and a new agreement must be created and accepted before you work together.

Because you’re an independent worker, you have the autonomy to set your own rates. However, there are some simple, effective tips you can consider when setting a public holiday rate with your client. When setting any rate on Mable, we encourage workers to consider their skills, experience and the type of the services they are looking to provide. Where you are providing services that rely on your qualifications and experience you might like to charge more than when you are providing services like social support that may not rely as much on your expertise.
The average rates on Mable charged by independent support workers are between $35 and $45 per hour, but what people charge on a public holiday can vary.
Talk to other support workers
It’s always good to ask for advice if you’re unsure – especially those that have the same job as you. Don’t be afraid to ask
Remember, if you’d like to set a public holiday rate, just ask your client if they’re happy to agree to the rate. There’s a good chance your client has had to pay public holiday rates to support workers in the past, so it doesn’t hurt to ask.
