Why the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission is vital for the disability sector

An extremely welcome addition to the Australian disability sector, the new NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission will allow thousands of people receiving disability support to put their trust in NDIS registered providers across the nation.

In a national first, the Federal Government has announced that the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission, a body independent to the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA), will stringently screen organisations applying to become an NDIS registered provider.

The newly-established NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission will work to uphold the safety of all those living with a disability who receive support through NDIS registered providers.

The Commission was initially announced alongside this year’s federal budget and is designed to work directly with NDIS-funded individuals, service providers, support workers and the wider community to ensure people living with a disability can safely and successfully reach their support goals. The Commission will cover many roles that were previously held by the NDIA.

  • It will register and regulate NDIS providers according to the NDIS Quality and Safeguarding Framework,
  • administer guidance and support to help NDIS providers understand their guidelines, responsibilities and best practices,
  • receive and resolve complaints about NDIS providers from clients,
  • and advise providers about complaints and how to manage incidents.

On July 1, 2018, the $219 million Commission was rolled out in New South Wales and South Australia and is estimated to be present in all states by July 1, 2020.

How does the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission fit in with Mable?

Before a client can contact a worker, the worker must provide further evidence of a Police Check and a Working with Children Check if necessary.

Our in-office team thoroughly checks and verifies the evidence provided by workers and will only approve their profile once all checks are completed.

Our clever and easy-to-use only platform allows clients to search for workers based on the criteria most important to them and ensures all information on the client’s profile is undisclosed to the community of support workers.

A suite of comprehensive insurance policies provides additional peace of mind for support workers and clients if an incident occurs.
