An extremely welcome addition to the Australian disability sector, the new NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission will allow thousands of people receiving disability support to put their trust in NDIS registered providers across the nation.
In a national first, the Federal Government has announced that the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission, a body independent to the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA), will stringently screen organisations applying to become an NDIS registered provider.
The newly-established NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission will work to uphold the safety of all those living with a disability who receive support through NDIS registered providers.
The Commission was initially announced alongside this year’s federal budget and is designed to work directly with NDIS-funded individuals, service providers, support workers and the wider community to ensure people living with a disability can safely and successfully reach their support goals. The Commission will cover many roles that were previously held by the NDIA.
- It will register and regulate NDIS providers according to the NDIS Quality and Safeguarding Framework,
- administer guidance and support to help NDIS providers understand their guidelines, responsibilities and best practices,
- receive and resolve complaints about NDIS providers from clients,
- and advise providers about complaints and how to manage incidents.
On July 1, 2018, the $219 million Commission was rolled out in New South Wales and South Australia and is estimated to be present in all states by July 1, 2020.
How does the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission fit in with Mable?
Here at Mable, we prioritise the safety and peace of mind of each client seeking disability support and aged care. We aren’t an NDIS registered provider, and that’s because we have a unique, consumer-driven model that enables those seeking support to be in complete control of who enters their homes and supports them. This means Mable isn’t subject to the regulatory functions of the NDIS Commission.
Although we are not an NDIS registered provider, we do work closely with thousands of people who receive NDIS funding and whose NDIS funds are plan managed, self-managed or agency managed. By giving those living with a disability access to thousands of safe, trustworthy support options in independent support workers, Mable works to enrich lives and empower Australians to live a life of their choosing.
How Mable sets itself apart from traditional support providers
Unlike any other support provider in the Australian disability sector, Mable enables those requiring support to play an active, integral, and central role in their support process. By placing the client in the driver’s seat when it comes to searching, choosing and engaging a support worker, clients get to experience being in control of their own lifestyle choices.
Our strict support worker approval process ensures each worker provides legitimate references, has an ABN and provides appropriate evidence for certain skills and qualifications. Before a client can contact a worker, the worker must provide further evidence of a Police Check and a Working with Children Check if necessary.
Our in-office team thoroughly checks and verifies the evidence provided by workers and will only approve their profile once all checks are completed.
Our clever and easy-to-use only platform allows clients to search for workers based on the criteria most important to them and ensures all information on the client’s profile is undisclosed to the community of support workers.
A suite of comprehensive insurance policies provides additional peace of mind for support workers and clients if an incident occurs. By providing general liability cover, professional indemnity, and group personal accident covers, Mable is ensuring those working and receiving support can be in control, safe and secure at all times.
Even though we are an online platform, we are here to help. Our team will work closely with clients to help them connect with the right support worker, resolve any issues and get them connected to the growing Mable community.

In a sector where individuals actively seek out trusted, safe support options, it is important to have stringent screening processes to ensure those seeking support can receive the right support whenever they require it.
Safety and security is an integral part of the disability sector – that’s why, at Mable, we believe the newly-established Commission is vital for people searching for support from NDIS registered providers. It’s also the reason why our platform will continue to ensure each person seeking disability support has complete peace of mind when taking steps to live life on their terms.
