On 1 July, the complete roll-out of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) began in New South Wales and WA. We welcome this as great news for our clients and support workers. It’s an important milestone towards enabling clients with a disability to choose their own support and live life on their terms.
Is it available in my area yet?
The NDIS has been rolling out in stages across Australia since 2013 and this differs by state and territory. Even if it’s not in your area yet, you can make an access request up to six months before it is. And there’s no need for forms. If you prefer, you can do this over the phone or authorise a family member, support worker or advocate to help you.
Here is our breakdown by state and territory:
ACT has made a complete transition.
NSW has now made NDIS available state-wide for any clients receiving supports through the Government’s specialist disability services. As of 1 July, this includes South Eastern Sydney, Sydney, Far West District, Illawarra Shoalhaven, Mid North Coast, Murrumbidgee, Northern NSW and Western NSW.
SA is introducing NDIS in stages. It is now available to adults aged 18-64 based on where they live, starting with Barossa Light, Lower Adelaide and Northern Adelaide.
WA started rolling out on 1 July. This will provide much-needed support in the Kimberley and the Pilbara.
Tasmania is rolling out by age group and on 1 July granted access to children aged 4 to 11.
Queensland added Ipswich, Lockyer Valley, Scenic Rim and Somerset on 1 July and will have rolled NDIS out across the state by 2019.
NT is rolling out the NDIS by region. On 1 July, Darwin Remote, Katherine and eligible people in supported accommodation in Alice Springs joined the NDIS.
So, how does the NDIS work and how do I go about using the Mable platform?
