We spoke to Leanne, who left her job as a coordinator to sign up to Mable. Today, she has seven Mable clients and works a 35-hour week. This is her story.
“I started worked in a nursing home when I was 19 years old. I worked in hospitality for 20 years and then as a care worker and coordinator for more than 10 years after that.
I have seven clients through the Mable platform and I must say it’s the best thing that could happen to me or any other care worker. The Mable team answered any questions I had and did everything they could to help me sign up. Once I’d spoken to them, I was up and running. The platform is very easy to use.
I generally do personal care for my clients and go along with whatever they like to do. I keep an open mind. I find out what they need by looking at their homes and seeing how they walk and move. In my experience, clients who are ageing don’t always want to tell anyone what to do.
One of my clients is into health and fitness. I regularly do gardening with another client. I’m also going to do a course in art therapy. I take them shopping, to the movies and out for some exercise. I used to do one client’s make-up and nails, and dye her hair.
I’d definitely recommend Mable. I tell people about it all the time. I would suggest this to anyone, especially a coordinator. The best coordinator is someone who’s done the care worker role, has been face to face with these clients, their emotions and their daily struggles.
As Mable workers, we’re not told what do to do. You don’t have to do jobs you don’t want to do. We’re treated with so much respect by the Mable team. All the clients seem to be so easygoing and I do my best to get along with them. Each day I’ve had the best day of my life because I’ve made someone else’s day.”
