We’ve put together a guide to a number of exciting events and activities you can do around the country in June-July 2023. You can book an Independent Support Worker on Mable to go with you or to help you plan your outing.

Drawing and Meditation Class

Reginald Murphy Community Centre, 19 Greenknowe Avenue, Potts Point, Sydney, NSW 11am-12.30pm Tuesdays until 27th June 2023 Concession tickets are $4.70
Attend a relaxing drawing workshop where the enjoyment of drawing is encouraged. You will also learn foundation drawing techniques. Week by week, various beginner drawing exercises are conducted. No experience is necessary and blank paper and pens will be provided. Class sizes are small so be sure to book. Mobility access is available.
Ukulele Classes (Beginners to Advanced)

Maybanke Community Centre, 87-89 Harris Street, Pyrmont, Sydney, NSW 3pm-5pm Wednesdays until 20th December 2023 Free to attend
Have you ever wanted to pick up an instrument and learn to play? These ukulele classes are suitable for complete beginners through to experienced players. Make new friends, learn a new skill, and spend some time enjoying the sounds from this clever little instrument. Mobility access is available.
Visit the Royals at Madame Tussauds

1-5 Wheat Road, Sydney, NSW 10am-5pm, some days open to 8pm $48 per adult and Companion Card accepted
With the Coronation now over, it’s fun to know you can go and ‘visit’ King Charles III and the Prince and Princess of Wales at Madame Tussauds Wax Museum. Have your photo taken with your favourite royal and, while you’re there, you may also like to visit Steve Irwin and Spiderman. Accessibility info here.
The Australian Ballet: Behind the Scenes

State Theatre, Arts Centre, 100 St Kilda Road, Melbourne, Vic 11.30am, Friday 7th July 2023 $29 (book ASAP) and Companion Card is accepted
Watch the morning class and The Australian Ballet’s top dancers rehearsing a pas de deux. Commentary from the company’s staff is included, providing a wonderful insight into what’s involved in bringing a performance together. Accessibility info here.
Workshop: Attracting Birds to Your Garden

Mueller Hall, Royal Botanic Gardens, Birdwood Ave, Melbourne, Vic 2pm-3pm, Tuesday 20th June 2023 $30 for non-members
Sharing the garden with birds is a joy and there are ways to attract more birds to your garden to increase your enjoyment. Dr Annie Naimo, Urban Birds Program Coordinator at Birdlife Australia, is providing a 1-hour talk on the topic. Accessibility info here.
See a Movie at the Astor Theatre

Corner of Chapel St & Dandenong Road, St Kilda, Melbourne, Vic 6.30pm Mon, Wed, Thu, Fri, Sat; 1pm Sundays $10-$15
The Astor is the oldest single-screen theatre in Melbourne, a theatre designed in grand style, in continuous operation since 1936. From the gold curtains that frame the screen, to the resident cat, Duke who sometimes visits with patrons, there’s so much to love about the experience. Fully accessible, including bathrooms.
Scenic Rim Clydesdale Spectacular

Boonah Showgrounds, Boonah, Qld Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th June 2023 $25 for a single day pass and Companion Card is accepted
A two-day Clydesdale and heavy horse spectacular is coming to Boonah Showgrounds. The Clydesdale Spectacular offers the largest prize money in the Southern Hemisphere and some of the world’s finest examples of the breed will be on show. There’ll also be Scottish pipe and drum bands, a Scottish cuisine night, and horse-drawn wagon rides. Accessibility info here.
50 Plus: Belly Dancing

Fifty Plus Centre, 64 Adelaide Street, Brisbane, Qld 1.30pm-2.30pm Friday 16th June 2023 $10
Participate in a low-impact dance form to improve fitness, strength, balance and coordination. This Belly Dancing class is designed for older people looking to do some gentle exercise in a social environment. No experience is necessary.
