Over three days, the Mable Team brought the Self Directed Conversations Roadshow to over 100 clients, independent support workers, case managers and members of the community across the Sunshine Coast, Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
The Roadshow encouraged those in Queensland communities to think about whether they’d like to receive an NDIS plan and how they would like to manage their plan.
One client at Mable’s Gold Coast event felt confident about using the Mable platform after hearing stories and insights from the Mable Team: “I found the Roadshow to be very informative, I learnt a lot and now I have the confidence to self-manage and pick my independent support workers through Mable”.
Throughout each Roadshow event, four members of Mable’s Community Engagement Team shared their personal experiences in seeking the right support options for family members, friends and clients. Caroline Daley, Mable’s Community Engagement Manager for the NSW Hunter Region shared her experience of being the first to self-manage a plan in the NDIS with her daughter, while others within the Mable Team compared the benefits of different management experiences.
“What was really amazing to me was…the difference between a plan-managed package and a self-management model in the NDIS and the opportunities that this is going to bring for the clients,” said a case manager and independent support worker on the Mable platform.
“Mable will empower our clients to choose their own workers to put together their own teams so they can live the life that they really want to.”
The Roadshow also took attendees through the definition of reasonable and necessary supports within the NDIS, defined the language for participants and differences between a local area coordinator and a support coordinator.
After attending the Gold Coast Roadshow, independent support worker Susan was able to gain a deeper understanding of her clients’ support systems, how to use the Mable platform and how to provide goal-oriented supports.
“What really excites me is that Mable…is coming from that ground level rather than being a theoretical framework. For me, that’s a really good thing because it’s meeting people’s needs as they’ve expressed them instead of professionals saying ‘this is what you need’”.
“It’s given me a lot of confidence as a worker that I’m actually part of something that is so honouring to the users.”
