It’s time to get prepared for your interview with a client

Using Mable to connect with clients requiring aged care, disability support or short-term support comes with so many benefits. One of them is being able to meet with your client before coming into their homes and providing them support, which is something that traditional providers may not encourage. If a client has requested to meet you for an interview, here are some things you should do to make a good first impression.

Most clients will request an interview or meet-up prior to starting the first support session, so it is important to be prepared and open to questions from your client.

Provide them your contact details before the interview

Once you agree to an interview with a client, make sure you provide them with your contact details. Even if you and your client have agreed on where and when you’ll meet, you should always be prepared for any unexpected changes. These interviews can sometimes be stressful for the client, but they also extremely important. If they have your mobile number, they have additional peace of mind that you are reachable.

Brainstorm which personal qualities you can apply when supporting them

Only you know how you can support a potential client, and it’s important you can express this to them during the interview. For example, if you’re meeting with a child who is looking to find social support for their elderly parent, jot down a few personal qualities that you think best apply for the job, such as humility, good communication, and sensitivity. Keep in mind examples of times when you’ve provided similar support

If you’ve had prior experience supporting a client with similar needs, be prepared to share these experiences as examples of how you can support them. Having these examples is also a great opportunity to show your personal qualities and it displays you’re passionate about helping others and their families.

Create copies of your qualifications and any evidence of support skills

Most of the time, clients organise interviews with potential support workers so they can gain a better understanding of your specific skills and qualifications in disability support or aged care. Before any client can contact a worker, the worker is manually approved and verified by Mable. This process includes the worker providing references from past jobs and documents to verify specific qualifications. Clients want to be sure that you are the right support worker for them or their family member, so when they request to see evidence of your qualifications, don’t be alarmed. Make a copy of the documents they’d like to see and bring them along to the interview.

Make note of your availability and schedule

Although your client can see your weekly availability on your Mable profile, they may want to get a deeper understanding of this when they meet you. Write down the times and days you’re able to assist them and offer them this written information to keep. This shows the client you’re proactive and ready to work.

Interviews are an essential part of a client’s support process. It gives them insight into who you are and how you can support them and it’s also a gateway for you to expand your career in support work.
